:: Different

Two weeks ago Josh left on a 5-day hunting trip.

...hiking over hills, down canyons, up mountains.  Everywhere.

...All in hopes of accomplishing this:

I'm so glad Josh loves getting out in the great outdoors, having male bonding times (which must happen better when no one has showered in days), and bringing meat home for the family.

However, while he was gone, I was at home, sleeping in a soft bed, showering regularly, feeding the kids frozen pre-made foods for dinner, and skipping sleep to work with this scrumptiousness!

Planning (in my own elementary way) quilts for my 3 little girlies.

I've started the first one.  The fabric is dreamy, and I'm in heaven.  And I'm thanking the good Lord he made me a girl instead of a boy.  =)

:: A is for Axel

Four months ago one of my little sisters had her very first baby.  Even though I'm rather new at making baby quilts for people, I wanted to make one that would fit her personality.  However, she is stylish and trendy, and doesn't even have to try.  Oh, and a very successful hairstylist.  (Need I say more?)

In honor of her really-good-at-baseball hubby, they decided to decorate the nursery in a baseball theme.  I wanted the quilt to match their colors, but not be too matchy-matchy-everything-is-baseball.

(It's asking too much for a 7-year-old boy to hold a quilt, let along hold it straight!)

I think she loved it as much as I did.  Hopefully little Axel will too.

:: Hanging like plates

The very first time we walked through the front doors of this house for a showing, I admired the curved staircase.  Visions instantly filling my mind: each of my 3 daughters taking their turn, misty white gown flowing behind them, descending those stairs on the arm of their father.

However, the honemoon ended after we moved in and I tried to decorate that space.  What can you hang on a curved wall?  Not much.  I filled many nail holes as I discovered this fact.

(inspiration photo)

But thanks to pinterest... an idea began to form.  Not only was this new idea vintage looking, it fit our (non-existant) decorating budget.

I found the most awesome plate hangers at hobby lobby.  They come in different sizes, but the 3" size that I used were only $1.99 (and I used my 40% coupon on several visits).  SOOO much better than the metal stretchy ones (which I did use for the biggest plates, as the DISC hangers can be kinda pricey for the large size).

(thrift store plates, collected over the weeks)

It was harder than I thought, hanging these innocent-looking plates.  The hanging was easy enough.  Nail a hole and hang the things.  But at first, it looked like a wave of plates had hit my wall. So I tried moving them around, and they looked even worse.  (if you look closely, you can see some of the holes I had to fill)

My man would never want to admit it, but he really has an eye.  He came home from work, I sheepishly filled all the holes, and we started over.

Now I love walking through my front door.  =)

:: Jumping In

Blogging?  I love to read other peoples' blogs, but have one of my own?
The guilt I felt at first, thinking of devoting that kind of time to a blog, kept me from taking the plunge.  But then, when I thought about what a terrific way it is to journal our lives, with commentaries and pictures hand-in-hand.  I decided to take the plunge.

So here goes.  I can't promise I'll be good at it, or give fabulously edited photos.  But as long as a memory is saved... a person is inspired (like I have been reading others' blogs!), and I learn one more skill in the process, that is all I can ask.
